Who are the World’s Youngest Golfers?

Golf is a sport ideal for all ages. There is a fair share of excellent adult golf players and young players who excel in the sport at a very young age. It is not surprising that these talented young golfers already achieved many medals and awards that would guarantee that they are the best of the world’s best young golf players. Every golf enthusiast would probably say that they are the future of the sport.  

Get to know these youngsters that top the list of the world’s youngest golf players. 

1. Viktor Hovland

A 23-year old Norweigan golfer, Viktor Hovland is one of the best young players of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA). As a golfer, Hovland’s biggest strength would be his golf swing. In 2020, he garnered the title of being the first Norwegian to win on the PGA Tour during the Puerto Rico Open. He was also the first Norweigan to win the European Tour in the 2021 BMW International Open. Viktor Hovland currently ranks 10th in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). 

2. Rasmus Højgaard

The 19-year-old Højgaard was hailed the third-youngest golfer to win on the European Tour that happened in 2019. He may have missed his successive four cuts in this event, but the wedge was no fluke. Following this, Højgaard finished in the top 6 for four times in his last five starts. He currently ranks 130th in the OWGR, but he surely has a lot more to go. 

3. Collin Morikawa

At 24 years old, Collin Morikawa’s career come after Hideki Matsuyama’s. He may have points deducted due to his age, but Morikawa is undoubtedly the best iron player in his group of golfers. Collin Morikawa is a zero putter (140th on PGA Tour), which is alright since he is superior in ball-striking. Morikawa’s irons are arguably his greatest strength in golf and are considered the best in the PGA Tour. At the end of 2020, he placed 7th in the Official World Golf Ranking. 

4. Robert MacIntyre

Robert MacIntyre is a 25-year-old Scottish golfer. His greatest strength is probably his laser-like irons which placed him 8th on the 2019 European Tour. However, he may have room for improvements in his driving accuracy. Despite that, MacIntyre made three runner-up finishes on the European Tour and shined brightly in the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, where he showed the world that he is on for the competition. As of now, he ranks 48th in the Official World Golf Ranking. 

5. Matthew Wolff

This young golfer has it. He is intangible and such an electrifying player. Matthew Wolff, a 22-year-old American golfer, is an excellent golf putter. He won the NCAA Division I individual championship in 2019 and had his first win on the 2019 PGA Tour 3M Open event. Matthew Wolff got the 15th spot on the Official World Golf Ranking at the end of 2020. 

6. Joaquin Niemann

Niemann is a 22-year-old professional golfer from Chile. His greatest strength in golfing would definitely be Irons since he ranked 8th place on Tour in the strokes-grained approach. Despite his very young age, Joaquin Niemann already gives out veteran energy when playing. He already had four top-10 wins on Tour and another 20 made cuts in his whole year on Tour. It is undeniable that no one as young as Joaquin Niemann has a comparable level of experience to what he has. At the end of 2020, Niemann ranked 45th place in the OWGR. 

7. Sungjae Im

At 22, this young golf player seems to be good at everything! However, Sungjae Im’s iron play has gone cold for the past few months. Nevertheless, this golfer still belongs to the best young golf players in the world. Sungjae Im has a lot of golf experience compared to other players based on the number of golf he plays. He played thirty-five tournaments in 2018, was named as the best player in the 2018 Korn Ferry Tour, and was hailed the best rookie player on the PGA Tour. In 2020, he ranked 18th in the Official World Golf Ranking. There is no doubt that Sugjae Im has a bright future in this sport. 

8. Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler is a 25-year-old American golf player. He was the best player in the 2019 Korn Ferry Tour, and he went straight to compete in the PGA Tour. Scheffler bagged three top-5 finishes in a four-tournament event in the PGA Tour. His greatest strength is a Driver, wherein he ranked 9th place in SG off the tee. He currently ranks 31st at the end of 2020 OWGR.
