Syma X5SW Review: It’s A Pretty Good Beginner Drone!

The Syma X5SW is the most advanced model in the X5 range. It’s pretty much the epitome of consumer drones. And please note that it is also the priciest of the lot.

But those fretting about the price will be delighted to know that the price difference is only marginal. The benefits, on the other hand, is great. The X5SW is known for its amazing camera and other than that, it has the same accessories, batteries, and transmitter as the earlier model.

Specifications

The specifications of the drone are 310mm x 310mm x 105 mm and diagonal motor distance is around 230 mm. The motor size of this drone is coreless and around 8 X 20 mm.

Weight

Its weight is 120g with battery, camera and prop guards.

Flight Time

The flight time lasts from 6 to 8 minutes and about 4 minutes when the camera and prop guards are turned on.

Charging Time

Charging time is around 45 minutes and control distance is 50m.

The plus point of Syma X5SW is that it can precast the first-person video all over Wi-Fi. To do this, it must first be installed as an app on your smartphone.

It Comes With An App!

The Syma FPV is available for both Android and Apple iOS users. The app can be run and turned on quite easily once it is installed in the smartphone. The Drone’s camera takes close to 30 seconds to set up a hotspot.

Ease Of Flying

Latency is not noticeable and as it gets further away, the latency becomes evident.

If the latency is between 0.3 to 2 seconds, hitting a target is possible. But when the X5SW is flown within a couple of meters of the smartphone, latency is quite easy.

At 50 meters, be warned that the latency is terrible. This drone is not meant for fast and rapid FPV racing. It can be useful when things such as aligning and framing the shot need to be done.

It’s Pretty Cheap!

Since it is pretty much a beginner drone, this particular drone model is highly affordable. At the time of writing this article, the drone was only $30 (Check The Current Price On Amazon)

The quadcopter is light, portable and easy to move around and the controls are quite well built and embedded into the system, so moving the drone at the flick of a switch is a piece of cake.

Battery Life

With the camera attached to it, this drone model suffers from low flight time except when using the supplied battery. With the supplied battery, flight time is only around 4 minutes, but it’s pretty easy to get some extra battery life.

The trick is to use larger batteries rather than relying on the supplied batteries. The reason for this is quite simple yet ingenious. The camera draws a lot of power while the FPV feed is being transmitted. This means that the video transmission can experience really bad latency.

When the camera is removed, the flight time of this model is the same as earlier models. So, here’s the tip. If you don’t need the camera but have a need for speed, make sure it is not attached to the drone.

Battery Life

It’s really really cheap!

The best part about this particular drone model is that it only cost $61 (Check Current Price On Amazon) and is the only model in it’s brand and specification range to have an FPV.

Drones with proper FPVs can cost 10 to 20 times more. So this is a great idea if you are on a budget but really want to have a First Person View. This is definitely the most affordable quadcopter with FPV.

It also has other amazing features such as spacious battery compartment and strong landing limbs. So, if money is a consideration and you are looking for the budget version of an FPV enabled drone, this is the way to go.

Conclusion

The most amazing part about purchasing this particular model of drone or quadcopter is that you can be assured that the quality is top of the line and there are very few hurdles in flying the drone.

Its user manual is also extremely easy to follow and the drone is very light and flexible. The SYMA X5SW is an excellent choice for those looking to get the best bang for their buck and true value for money.

Choose this model only if you have considerations when it comes to the budget and compulsions when it comes to the FPV. But even otherwise, this is a great model to purchase.
