The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner took off for the first time on September 17, 2013. It was its first flight test program leading to the certification and delivery in the middle of 2014. Due to the new distinguishing Boeing plane, the efficient 787 aircraft completed a 5 hour and a 16-minute flight. It took off from Paine Field in Everett, Washington, at 11:02 AM in local time and landed at 4:18 PM on Seattle’s Boeing Field.

Crashes/Issues

The Boeing 787-9 got into many crashes and issues. Here are some of them:

1. B789 / A388, Singapore (2017)

On March 30, 2017, a Boeing 787-9 aircraft moving slowly on the runway for departing at night in Singapore got into a minor accident with a stationary Airbus A380.

The investigation proved that the conflict took place due to poor control of the GND by the supervised trainee. The 787 crew did not handle the situation accurately upon facing a collision with the A380.

2. B789/B773, Delhi, India (2017)

On October 7, 2017, a Boeing 787-9 was arriving towards Delhi airport on the runway where a departing Boeing 777-300 was about to take off. The Boeing was about to land on runway 29 at Delhi airport, but that runway was being used by the departing Aircraft 777-300.

It landed on the runway and came within 0.2 nm and 200 feet vertically to the airplane due to the ATC (Air Traffic Control) failure to ensure the required distance and separation needed. A proper investigation was launched to look into the whole event.

3. B789 / C172, en route Northwest of Madrid Spain (2017)

On August 8, 2017, Boeing 787-9 aircraft departing Madrid going towards Dallas-Forth Worth was landing on the FL109 pathway. It almost came into contact with another plane but thankfully was avoided due to the Boeing crew’s careful handling. The investigation proved that the other aircraft had a conflicting flight path.

Delay in Production and Technical Issues

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) stated that there had been many delivery issues. The delay in this model’s production has pushed back the planes’ delivery by the contract’s assigned time, and some have even passed the 12 months of the designated delivery time.

In an article published in Feb 2021, John Plueger of the ALC said that this issue had gone longer than anticipated and must be resolved to ensure a good market for the model and a good relationship with Boeing and its customers.

One of the other concerns raised by ALC is that it’s getting harder to maintain and fix this Boeing model, which along with the on-going delay in its production and delivery, gives airlines a hard time. As a result, more frequent and more extensive inspections are being conducted upon finding concerns in different parts.

Conclusion

Boeing 787-9 is an excellent airplane with many great features. It has 290 seats for passengers with business and economy class. It is one of Boeing’s most sought airplanes, with its demand increasing day by day. This plane is suitable not only for transporting people but also cargo and is one of Boeing’s most successful models to date. Air Canada has made Boeing even better by giving it its signature qualities, hence improving the overall customer’s flight experience.
