Review of the DJI Mavic 2

DJI is one of the strongest company when it comes to making drones that are easy to use and capable of producing great content, and their Mavic 2 series, composed of the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom models can prove that even more. These drones are arguably two of the most advanced drones that DJI has released. Let’s find out what they got.

Drone type: Quadcopter

Weight: 907g

Dimensions: 322 mm by 242 mm by 84 mm

Mavic 2 Pro Camera: 1-inch, 20-megapixel CMOS sensor; adjustable aperture; 10-bit Dlog-M; 10-bit HDR video

Mavic 2 Zoom Camera: 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel sensor with up to 4x zoom, including a 2x optical zoom (24–48 mm); 48MP super-resolution photo; 4x lossless zoom FHD video; dolly zoom

Onboard storage: 8GB

Max Flight Time: 31 minutes

Max Speed: 72 kph (in sports mode)

The only difference between the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom is the features that their cameras offer. But when it comes to the design, the Mavic 2 series is similar to the earlier Mavic Pro but it promises less noise and better aerodynamics.

The Mavic 2 is more portable compared to other drone models and once it’s in the air, you’ll feel like you’re engrossed in a video game on your mobile device. It also does not invite a lot of unwanted attention, unlike those bulky and loud drones.

The Mavic 2 is also enjoyable to fly because it has a top speed of 72 kph in sport mode and a maximum of 31 minutes of flight time with no wind. It also has added sensors on the front, back, top, bottom, left, and right, making it easy to avoid obstacles. It is able to stop itself when it is about to run into something like a tree which will give you more confidence to fly it close to obstacles. However, its obstacle avoidance is disabled in the sport mode.

Both the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom are available in a bundle set which includes the drone, battery, remote controller, charger, and four pairs of propellers. You can also pay an extra amount for a Fly More Kit which includes two batteries, a multi-battery charging hub, a car charger, two pairs of propellers, and a carry bag.

The DJI Mavic 2 series is indeed one of the best drones you can find on the market, however, there is one drawback about it which is, it does not have Wi-Fi connectivity. This means that it can’t be controlled using mobile devices. It may not be a big issue but it can be a deal-breaker for some. For example, if you’re a sports enthusiast and you do not want to carry a controller while snowboarding, the Mavic 2 isn’t the best drone for you. But the good thing is that it connects to GPS faster and more reliable compared to other DJI drones.
